Go Cubbies...

2012 is the year...just ask Lucky Lilly!!!

Cubs rarely win.

In 2008 the Cubs won 97 regular season games.  It was their most wins since 1945 when the Cubbies won 98 games.  I hope Theo will help the Cubs win 100+ on a regular basis.

Postseason Grand Slam

The only Cubs player to ever hit a grand slam in the postseason is Aramis Ramirez.  He did it in game 4 of the 2003 NLCS.

Kerry Wood

In 1998 Kerry Wood was named the National League Rookie of the Year.  He is the only Cubs pitcher to receive the honor.

Bears in Wrigley! Why not goats?

In 1916 the head animal keeper at Lincoln Park Zoo brought a live bear cub to home plate inside Wrigley Field.  This was prior to the Cubs first game at Wrigley.  Why not take a goat to home plate in 2012?

Occupy Wrigley Field

Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement I am thinking of organizing an Occupy Wrigley Field Day, with goats of course.  I am thinking of surrounding Wrigley Field with as many goats as possible and remaining there until at least one goat is allowed into the stadium.  Unlike the Occupy Wall Street protests our Occupy protest will have a purpose.  The purpose is to get one or many goats into Wrigley Field to reverse the curse on the Cubs.  We are protesting the futility of the Cubs ability to win a World Series in 103 years!  It will take a bit of planning to organize such an event.  We will need fresh water, hay, and grain for all the goats.  We should also consider having mineral mix and baking soda available for our beloved goats.  Once the logistics are worked out I am convinced Occupy Wrigley will be a grand success!

Cubs hire new manager.

The Cubs have hired Dale Sveum to a 3 year deal as their manager.  He was the third base coach with the Red Sox in 2004 when they won their first World Series since 1918.  I hope he can be as successful with the Cubbies.  Dale has been with the Brewers for the past several years.  Now the Cubs need to find some decent players.

A little Cubs Trivia

The only season the Cubs didn't finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the National League during the 1930's was 1939. They finished in 4th place that year with a record of 84-70.

Operation Goat Hair Drop

Yesterday my family and I did a tour of beautiful Wrigley Field.  I brought a little goat hair from our lucky goat Lillie.  She was only one pound when she was born.  She is a happy, healthy adult now.  Anyway, I deposited a few of her hairs throughout Wrigley.  I figure it is the next best thing to actually taking a goat into the ballpark.  It can't hurt.  In other news at the friendly confines Theo Epstein arrived while we were at the park.  Unfortunately I missed seeing him while taking a walk around Wrigley.  My Mom did get a picture of the back of his head though.  There were camera men from the major Chicago news networks waiting to catch a glimpse of Theo.  WGN even interviewed us.  We didn't get on TV, but we made a brief appearance on their website.  It was a great tour even though we could only walk on the warning track and not the actual grass.  I only wish I could have talked to Theo to welcome him to Chicago and urge him to push for Take Your Goat Wrigley Day.  I think it would make a great charity event and help reverse the curse.

Take your goat to Wrigley

I've got nothing new to say about the Cubs.  But, I still urge everyone out there to take their goat to Wrigley to reverse the curse.  That is all the Cubs need to win the World Series.  Oh, and I guess Theo Epstein has signed a five year contract with the Cubs.  That actually is something new and very big news.
I hope he can do for the Cubs what he helped do for the Red Sox.

Zip Zabel

Zip Zabel.  What a great name.  On June 17, 1915 Zip pitched 18 1/3 innings in relief for the Cubs which is a major league record for the most relief innings pitched in a game.  The Cubbies won the game in 19 innings over Brooklyn.

I am still rooting for the Brewers now that the Cubs are done.  I hope Milwaukee can take St. Louis down in 5 games or less.

Long off season.

Even though the season is over for the Cubs I will try to put up an occasional post.  Rod Beck is the only Cubs right handed pitcher to post 50 or more saves in a single season with 51 in 1998.
Happy to see the Yankees lose to Detroit.  Hopefully the Tigers can finish them off tonight.  I am now rooting for the Brewers to win the World Series.  They almost never win and they are in the Cubs division.
It would be fun to see a St. Louis vs. Milwaukee NLCS.  As for the American League, I don't care who makes it to the Series as long as it isn't the Yankees.

Good news on Cubs front!

The Cubs did not lose today.  In other baseball news, the Yankees beating at the hands of Detroit resumes tonight.

Cubs get hammered in last game of season.

Cubs lose 9-2 to San Diego to end the season 71-91.  The Padres and the Royals finished with the exact same record as the Cubs.  Only 4 teams finished with worse records in all of major league baseball.  But,
just wait until next year.  The Cubs will come to their senses and have Take Your Goat to Wrigley Day before opening day.  This will lead to the Cubs winning 112 games easily.  Goats = wins.  Goats = World Series Champions!!  Mark my words.
In other baseball news I do feel terrible for Boston.  The Red Sox completed an epic collapse and will miss the playoffs this year.  They finished 90-72 and still won't have a postseason.  Now I say "Go whoever is playing the Yankees!!!"  "Beat the Yankees Anybody!!"

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Cubs beat Cardinals 5-1 WooHoo!!!

Cubs got their 70th win of the season last night with a 5-1 win over their rivals St. Louis.  Maybe the Cubs can be spoilers and ruin the Cards chances at the wild card.
It wasn't until 1925 when the Cubs finished 68-86 that they had the worst record in the National League.  This was the Cubs 50th year in the National League.  So the Cubs haven't always sucked.

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Cubs win 7-1 over Milwaukee!

Way to go Cubs!  The Cubs were victorious today over the Brewers 7-1.  Cubs are 69-87 and only 22 games out of first place.  Too bad the Cubbies only have 6 games left in the season.  Get your goats ready for Take Your Goat to Wrigley Day.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Cubs defeat 1st place Brewers

Cubs beat the Brewers last night 5-2.  Cubs are now 68-86 and tied with Pittsburgh for 4th in the NL Central.  Brew crew look poised to win the division though.  Cubs would have easily been 86-68 if they only had a goat.

Sunday, September 18, 2011

Cubs need goats.

The Cubs lost to the lowly Astros 3-2 in a rain delayed game today.  After handing Houston their 100th loss yesterday the Cubs couldn't get it done today.  Cubs are now 67-86.  Only 9 games left.  Cubs need some goats more than ever.  I think the Cubs will still win 70 this year.  Hopefully they can win 72, but does it really matter at this point?  Not so much.  I'm thinking sneaking little Lillie into Wrigley is in the cards.

Cubs still suck.

The Cubs are still trying to maintain their losing ways.  And they are succeeding.  They have lost 3 in a row and are now 65-85.  Good news is that there are only 12 games left in the season.  Another wasted year.  " Wait until next year" as the saying goes.  I say wait until we get some goats into Wrigley Field.
That is when the Cubs will be successful again.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Cubs drop one to the Reds

Cubs lost last night 2-1 to the Reds.  They are now 65-83.  There are only 14 games left in the season for the Cubbies.  On August 29th, 2002 Mark Bellhorn while playing for the Cubs became the first National League player to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

3 in a row!

Cubs won again last night over Cincinnati 12-8.  Think how much better the Cubs would have been this year with some goats on the field.

Monday, September 12, 2011

Cubs win again!!

Cubs beat Mets 10-6 in 11 innings last night in New York.  Cubs are now 64-82.  I am confident the Cubs can win 70 games this year.  That is my goal.  Next year after Operation Take Your Goat to Wrigley is completed the Cubs will be in the World Series for sure.

9 Reasons the Chicago Cubs Suck

Blue & Red (Chicago Cubs Remix)

I Bleed Cubbie Blue!

More goats!!

So, the Cubbies are 61-80 going into tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds.  If the Cubs can win the last 21 games of the season they will finish a respectable 82-80.  What are the chances of that happening?
About 0%!  They need more goats!  Even one goat inside Wrigley Field would help.  I am convinced the curse is real and the Cubs need help to reverse the curse.  Let's all lobby for a Take Your Goat to Wrigley Day.  Even if we do it in the off season I think it will be supremely effective.  I am heading to Indiana in October and I may just sneak a goat into Wrigley.

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Cubs lose 80th game of season.

Wow!  The Cubs have already lost their 80th game of the season.  With 59 wins and 80 losses things are not looking pretty.  We definitely need a National Take Your Goat to Wrigley Day!  It can't hurt.  Who's with me?

Friday, August 5, 2011

Inside the park Home Run!!

Tony Campana hit an inside the park homer at Wrigley.  The first Cub to ever do such a feat.   I don't know who Tony Campana is but I hope he keeps up the good play.  He also singled and doubled to help the Cubs win their 6th in a row.  Now only 14.5 games out of first, the Cubs are moving on up!!  Go Cubbies!!!!!

Thursday, August 4, 2011

4 in a row!!

The Cubs have won 4 in a row!  Their first 4 game winning streak this season.  It has been a long time coming.  Cubbies are now 46-65 and poised to make their move up the standings.  At only 15.5 games back they are ready to start playing for real now.  With 51 games left in the season they still have a shot at winning the division.  Admittedly the odds aren't good, but there is still a chance.  Hopefully today they will beat the Pirates again and continue their streak.

Friday, June 17, 2011

Cubs beat Yankees!!!

Go Cubs!!!  Cubs beat Yankees 3-1!!!  Cubs are now 29-40.  Looking good!!!

The Ghost of Harry Caray

Maybe the ghost of Harry Caray can help the Cubs win some games.  The Cubs are still in 5th in the Central and have lost 2 in a row to the cellar dwelling Houston Astros.  I don't care if it is Harry's ghost or goat, but the Cubs need help.

Historic series at Fenway

So the Cubs lost 2 out of 3.  It was still a historic weekend series at Fenway.  I enjoyed Friday's game from the outfield with my brother-in-law.  Thanks Mike!  The Cubs were drubbed 15-5, but it was fun.  Too bad a decent beer costs $8.50.  That's a little crazy, but we each had a couple.  This was the first time the Cubs
had played at Fenway since September 11, 1918.  That was game 6 of the World Series which surprisingly
enough the Cubs lost.  If there is anything the Cubs are good at it is losing.  I still love 'em!!

Cubs Suck!!

It may seem a bit harsh, but true.  The Cubs suck!  17-22.  6 games out of first place.  I shouldn't be disappointed.  This seems to be shaping up to be another typical Cubs year.  In better news, in 2004 four Cubs players hit over 30 home runs:  Moises Alou(39), Derrek Lee(32), Aramis Ramirez(36), and Sammy Sosa(35).

"All the Way" - Eddie Vedder Cubs Tribute

Spring Hopes Eternal

The Cubs have a .429 winning percentage as of today.  That's not so good.  But, they are only 3.5 games out of first place.  Fortunately the NL Central is pretty weak this year.  Maybe Ryan Dempster can get something going tonight against the Dodgers.  103 years since their last World Series Championship, the Cubs appear to be in no hurry to change things.

Cubs vs. Red Sox

So, I am pretty excited to see the Cubs play the Red Sox in May.  Should be lots of fun at Fenway.
As of today the Cubs and the Red Sox are both 11-14.  Fairly disappointing starts for both teams.
More so for the Red Sox.  The Cubs always lose.  Both teams are also 4 games out of first place in their divisions.  Definitely not insurmountable.  Maybe both teams need some goats.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

3 game losing streak

I may have been a bit premature in my last post that the Cubs were ready to make their move to the top of the NL Central.  They currently have a 3 game losing streak going.  I think it may be fortunate that tonight's game against Colorado is postponed.  Maybe the Cubs need a rest.  More likely they need a few goats!

Monday, April 25, 2011

Cubs are winning.

Cubs are up 3 zip at home vs. Colorado at the end of the 1st.  Go Cubs!  I just know the Cubs are about to make their move to the top of the NL Central.

8-8

Cubs win!!!  A good performance by Big Z last night.  Cubs beat the Padres 1-0.  Cubs are now 8-8 and only one game back of Cincinnati.  Of course they are tied with Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, and St. Louis.
I think this is anybody's division to win this year.  Hopefully the Cubs will find a way.  Of course, I know what the Cubs really need.  Goats in Wrigley!!

Steve Goodman: A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request

Cubs Lose.

So, the Cubs blew it in the eighth inning and lost 6-5 to Milwaukee.  Bummer!!  A 4-5 start to the season is fairly typical of the Cubs.  153 games to go in the regular season.  There is still plenty of time for the Cubbies to win the division.  Maybe a wildcard?  Let's hope so.

ivy at Wrigley

The ivy on the outfield walls at Wrigley was originally planted by Bill Veeck during the 1937 season.  I for one am happy he did that.  The ivy is part of what makes Wrigley special.   Cubs play the Brew crew in Milwaukee this evening.  Go Cubs.  Is everyone getting their goats ready for the big day?

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

First game at Wrigley

The Cubs first game at Wrigley Field took place April 20th, 1916.  They beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-6
in 11 innings.  After blowing a lead the Cubs are now tied with Arizona at 4 a piece.  I have to say I am
fairly pleased with the Cubs 2-2 start to the season.  They are doing better at this point than the Red Sox
who have been picked to win 100 games this season.  I know it is early and I wish the Red Sox all the best.
I would love a Red Sox vs. Cubs World Series.  A rematch of the 1918 Series with the Cubs winning this time in 7 games.

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Cubs win!!

Yeah, Cubs win 5-3 on Saturday!  So I'm thinking of doing a little research on Murphy.  He is the goat that William Sianis attempted to take into Wrigley Field in 1945.  He probably has an interesting story.  We'll see if I get around to doing the research.

Friday, April 1, 2011

Opening Day!

So, the Cubs are losing 6-2 to the Pirates in the 7th.  Go Goats!!  I mean, Cubs!!
No Cubs pitcher has ever given up a grand slam in a World Series game.  Before you say "yes but the Cubs are never in the World Series" they have actually been in 10 World Series.  Amazing I know.  They won it in 1907 and 1908.  They lost in 1906, 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, and of course 1945.
66 years is a fair amount of time to not get back to the Series.  Who's ready to take a goat to Wrigley?

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Cubs home opener

The Cubs home opener is April 1st versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.  It's a great time of year.  Hope springs eternal!   Maybe this will be the Cubs year.  I think a few goats attending a game would help.  Good luck Cubbies!

Take your goat or anybody's goat to Wrigley Day

I started this blog with a great deal of help from my wonderful wife.  The purpose of this blog is to help end the curse on the Chicago Cubs.  The Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908.  I am willing to try anything to help the Cubbies win another World Series.  I am hoping to inspire thousands of Cubs fans to take a goat to Wrigley Field to end the curse on the Cubs.  Of course, the goats need to actually be admitted into the stadium to be effective.  I think if enough fans arrive with a goat or several goats the Cubs owners will relent and allow them to enter Wrigley.  I don't have a specific date picked out for this endeavor yet.  That will be up to the fans.  My wife and I currently have 6 goats that would love to participate in this most worthy cause.  I am convinced that a large showing of goats inside Wrigley Field will reverse the curse.  The Cubs 103 years of futility will be forgotten.  Let's make Take Your Goat to Wrigley Day a reality!!  Let's help the Cubs be World Series Champions again!!
